March 'Meet the Maker 2023' Juju Rootz !

Hey there beautiful people,

This year I decided to participate in the March ‘Meet the Maker’ 2023 challenge on instagram. It suggests 30 things to write about as a social media post geared for artists and creatives. I thought I would write a bit of an extended version of the Meet the Maker on my blog! My version lists 11 facts about me !

First a few Quick & Quirky Facts :

1. I can be very funny in certain circumstances, it is a mystery as to when these elements come together.

2. I am mostly an introvert, with extrovert tendencies which works well for an artist and a scorpio and a bit of a challenge for a blooming entrepreneur!

3. I am a very real person, I am authentic and genuine and compassionate.

4. I am not great at small talk. I prefer deep conversations that make my mind and heart grow.

5. I love art, I am devoted to painting and expressing myself through art and becoming the best artist I can be.

and several extended facts…

1. My name is Julia Paige, and my friends call me Juju. I am 52 and a little bit of fabulous-sometimes, at least I do try. I am a multidisciplinary painter, artist, designer and teacher. I have always been a creative person and have participated in many creative endeavors over the years.

2. I studied Fine Art and English Education in Rochester and Buffalo, New York. My art teacher called me a prima donna because I could never just follow the rules and I always insisted on doing things ‘my way’. He also believed in me, so much that I will never forget his constant teaching encouragement. I still tend to do all things my way…

3. I am a mama of four amazing adults, my best artistic achievements to date! They all are presently onto spreading their wings and pursuing their dreams. Now I am really in that place where I need to start my life again or redirect it? Another new chapter, unfolding! Gratefully, I have my passion for painting and making many things!

4. It is my second year in my newly birthed business and I am still learning how to survive being an artist and a creative entrepreneur! Juggling all the things painting, working on tons of art, sharing and being more present on social media, marketing, networking, writing blogs & emails and so mucho more! I am a solo entrepreneur and wearing all the hats and multi-tasking like an octopus.

5. Originally I launched Juju Rootz as my gallery and online store with my innate need to express myself visually, because I am passionate about art painting, designing, and making things! I want to make meaningful work and operate a sustainable business.

6. My brands origin story has evolved over the years as I have, my present creative endeavor the launching of Juju Rootz, which is my online art gallery, artisans goods & shop is really the result of a kind of a rebirthing process. I went through serious spinal surgeries and long recovery time and though I couldn’t do much at the time, I was able to pick up my paintbrushes and start to paint; ‘this art is my medicine’ truly became my motto, because it gave me purpose and a focus from the difficulties I was going through. This is where my art business was born; with healing, passion and motivation and so much to share and show. My brands name evolved from my name Juju, short for Julia and the ‘rootz’ seemed to naturally follow suit. I like to think of my name and the title of my business as its own vibe- good vibes only! I think my brand is me and everything I am, feel, think about, I incorporate into my art.
